Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has a newly established foundation to support the district with additional funding.

The Winston-Salem Forsyth County Board of Education unanimously voted to provide end-of-year supplements of nearly $1,000 to all employees at a special meeting on Tuesday.

Officials from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and Forsyth Technical Community College will meet to set clear expectations for high schoolers on campus on Thursday.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County high schoolers advocated for safe gun storage at a board of education meeting on Tuesday. They’re part of a group called Students Demand Action, which is a national organization of young activists fighting gun violence. 

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools received $215 million through the second and third rounds of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds. A portion of those funds must be spent within six months, or returned to the federal government.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is looking to apply for $15 million in federal funding to support IB Programs at four schools. District officials say strong magnet programming will help diversify those schools.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education held a forum on Tuesday to hear from middle schoolers about their experiences at school. Students spoke on a variety of topics, but one that came up multiple times was school safety.
