The gist of the former Montgomery County district attorney's remarks hinged on the argument that Democrats were responding in a partisan way to the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

Former President Donald Trump's legal team also argued that the second impeachment trial should not move forward because he is no longer in office.

The nine House Democrats are expected to rely on lawmakers' personal experiences during the riots to build the case against Trump. The team is led by Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland.

Aides say the Senate will hear evidence "nobody has seen before" related to incitement of the Jan. 6 insurrection. The former president's defense, however, argues the trial should not happen at all.

Trump's current legal team came together a little more than a week ago. It happened after the former president and his previous defense team mutually agreed to part ways late last month.

"The hacker changed the sodium hydroxide from about 100 parts per million to 11,100 parts per million," Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said.

Although it's a coincidence on opposing sides of the impeachment, Bruce Castor Jr. and Rep. Madeleine Dean's presence is symbolic of the outsize role that Montgomery County has in national politics.

Smartmatic, an election technology company, sued the network for its "disinformation campaign" waged by people unhappy with President Biden's election victory.
