New book 'Redaction' humanizes redacted lawsuits through portraits and poems

NPR's Juana Summers speaks with poet and activist Reginald Dwayne Betts and artist Titus Kaphar about their new book, Redaction. The book is based on poems and portraits from redacted lawsuits.

Karla Renée was 18 weeks into her pregnancy when she and her husband Sam learned that the fetus had a serious genetic anomaly that could lead to severe physical and mental disabilities. They were faced with an enormous and pressing decision. In North Carolina, where they live, the current law forbids abortion after 20 weeks gestational age.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday hears arguments over whether the Biden administration exceeded its authority with its student debt forgiveness program.

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments next term about whether Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, set up after the 2008 financial crisis to protect consumers from predatory lending practices, is funded constitutionally.
