Johnson was elected to Greensboro’s Council in 2011, after serving as the city’s first Black mayor from 2007 to 2009.

The change to the local ordinance comes amid an increase of people without housing in the area.

The Greensboro City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the second phase of a plan to revitalize the Randleman Road Corridor. The vote that aims to improve living conditions in the area comes after two recent violent incidents.

The plan includes long-term projects like public art displays in the area as well as a more immediate focus on things such as better code and traffic enforcement.

The IRC has faced scrutiny since moving to a 24/7 model earlier this year with community members and city officials raising safety concerns.

The park was opened in the 1970s atop an unregulated landfill, but has garnered increased attention as residents have pushed for the contaminated soil in the area to be removed.

Davis will succeed interim City Manager Chris Wilson, who has served in the role since the abrupt resignation of Taiwo Jaiyeoba in March.
