Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is launching a new program to support equitable learning environments and outcomes for students.

It’s called the Equity Ambassadors Initiative.

This school year, there will be at least one ambassador at every school in the district who will act as a liaison between their school, and the Office of Equity, Access, and Acceleration.

The idea is that these individuals will have a better understanding of what is happening in their school building, and what their students' needs are, particularly as it relates to closing opportunity gaps based on race, gender, or economic status. Then they can bring those insights to the district.

The ambassadors will also engage in monthly professional learning, and receive an $1,800 stipend over the course of eight months for their work. They will also earn four Continuing Education Units.

The district is also looking for applicants to serve on the Equity Advisory Committee, which was established in 2021. This is a group of parents, community members, and district employees, who provide feedback to various departments on equity-related issues.

Applications for both of these programs are available on the district website.
