Activists campaigned to have Friday's R. Kelly show at the Greensboro Coliseum canceled as part of the #MuteRKelly movement. The R&B artist has faced decades of sexual abuse allegations.

The show went on, but individuals from groups including Black Lives Matter, SisterSong in Durham, and YWCA Greensboro showed up to protest.

Activist Omi Burney-Scott told those gathered that the demonstration was about accountability and justice.

“Thank you for trusting black women and girls," she said. "Thank you for saying no to violence against black women and girls. This is about people being held responsible for their actions. This is about disrupting sexual violence. This is about disrupting sexual predators.”

Friday's event was catapulted into the national spotlight last Thursday when Spotify announced it would no longer promote R. Kelly's material on its playlists.
