Guilford County's commissioners strongly support the use of body cameras by the sheriff's department. The board voted unanimously Thursday night to support that initiative.

The motion was at the request of Commissioner Carolyn Coleman. She said she's disturbed by the recent national incidents where unarmed African Americans have been killed by police. and asked for there to be a community discussion about police brutality that involves all the local law enforcement departments.

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes told the Greensboro News & Record last week that he is considering buying 350 of the cameras for his department.

Commissioner Ray Trapp said this would be a chance for Guilford County to be a leader in North Carolina.
