Paralyzed by a bullet in Iraq, Tomas Young has only seen his health deteriorate since he returned home. In February, Young announced he was going to remove his feeding tube and stop taking the nearly 100 pills a day. "I decided that I was no longer going to watch myself deteriorate," he says.

Construction Jobs Take A Hit In March After A Fall Boost

The latest employment numbers showed far fewer jobs were created in March than in February, disappointing those who had hoped robust growth from the winter months would hold into spring. The news overshadowed an effort from the White House to reach out to Republicans on the tax-and-spend front. The president said he would trim the growth in retirement programs if the GOP would accept some higher taxes. NPR's Scott Horsley talks to Robert Siegel about how the two issues are related.

For Pulitzer-Winning Critic Roger Ebert, Films Were A Journey

He was a print journalist initially, but Ebert's "thumbs up" TV critiques were just as influential as his essays, and he later carved out a prodigious digital presence. Ebert died Thursday after struggling for years with cancer. He was 70 years old.
