There is an acting FBI director in place, but the president is seeking to appoint an interim director. The attorney general was conducting interviews for that replacement already.

James Comey's March 20 testimony on Capitol Hill contradicted some of the president's positions. It was the first time he publicly acknowledged the FBI investigation into possible ties between Trump associates and Russia.
