Tucker Tharpe of the Garage: Self-Proclaimed Winston-Salem Enthusiast

Tucker Tharpe is the owner of the Garage, one of Winston-Salem's oldest music venues. Before owning the Garage, he worked at Spevco Inc., a company that specializes in mobile marketing. He has also worked at the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership, where he created a number of free events in the downtown area. WFDD Radio Camper Siona Kshirsager recently had the chance to interview him.

The first time I saw Tucker, I was struck by his casual appearance. His relaxed demeanor was apparent as he walked up the steps of the WFDD radio station, dressed in a t-shirt and khakis with a big cup of coffee in his hand. I asked about the vibe in the Garage and Tucker shared his favorite part about his business.

Meet the Small Business Owner: Hand Letterer and Calligrapher Emily Poe-Crawford

Many people hear calligrapher and think of a person with nice handwriting, but Emily Poe-Crawford knows that it is more than good writing - it's art. Emily is a hand letterer and calligrapher and sells her pieces on Etsy, an online store. This summer, she took off time from her schedule to talk to WFDD Radio Camper Quinn McCrea about her work.

Emily Poe-Crawford approached me from the opposite side of our meeting place and I could tell immediately from her face to her clothes - a gray t-shirt, shorts, and sandals - that she had a very relaxed personality. We sat down at a table and I asked where Emily learned to write so neatly. She said her amazing handwriting comes from her mom who also had neat handwriting.  Emily explains to me how her experiences as a child led her to her career.

Camino Bakery's Cary Clifford Discusses Her Deep Love for Winston-Salem

Cary Clifford is the owner and founder of Camino Bakery in downtown Winston-Salem. This local bakery attracts people from all over the area to downtown. Radio Camper Heather Schwartz sat down with her to find out more.

 
She walked up to me with a wide smile and an obvious enthusiasm to begin the conversation. Her enthusiasm for the interview stayed, and her comments on starting a business caught my eyes and ears.
