Bridge replacements taking place throughout the Triad

Adobe Stock image

Beginning this month, Triad motorists should be on the lookout for detours and temporary lanes around two regional bridge replacement projects that may impact their commute.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is beginning a project on Greensboro Chapel Hill Road in Alamance County. The section between Coble Mill Road and Bass Mountain Road will be closed until early May. Local driveway access will remain open during the construction, and drivers will be detoured around the closure.

And in Yadkin and Surry counties, the 61-year-old Interstate 77 bridge over the Yadkin River and N.C. 268 is scheduled for replacement. Crews have already begun adding a temporary lane on I-77 South. The entire project is expected to be completed by late 2028.

Transportation officials are urging drivers to plan their routes, stay alert for crews working in the areas and obey all posted traffic signs.
