On the eve of the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, its word selection panel has worked long hours to approve all words, including their spellings, pronunciations and languages of origin.
Spellers were greeted with a new preliminary-round format that gave them no time to get comfortable. They had to get through three words in one turn at the microphone to continue in the bee.
Just in time for the National Spelling Bee, Google published a map of the words people in each state have a hard time spelling. The results are not pretty. (And what's up with New Jersey?)
