Robinson, the only player to win the Most Valuable Player award in both major leagues, was the game's first African-American manager.

The Royals came into the game undefeated in the postseason and continued their streak, beating the Orioles 2-1. The team set a record with its eighth straight win to start the playoffs.

The Baltimore Orioles beat the Detroit Tigers 2-1 on Sunday, and the Kansas City Royals defeated the Los Angeles Angels 8-3. The American League Championship Series begins Friday in Baltimore.
