A former Winston-Salem State University student is behind bars and facing murder charges in the shooting of another student on campus.

The Winston-Salem Police Department says 21 year-old Jarrett Jerome Moore of Charlotte is also charged with possession of weapons on school grounds in connection with the death of Anthony White Jr.

Police chief Barry Rountree says Moore was arrested in another county Monday morning on unrelated charges.

“The suspect in the case was arrested in Charlotte with the assistance of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department,” says Rountree. “Winston-Salem detectives did respond to Charlotte and charges have since been drawn on the suspect for second-degree murder and also for having a weapon on school property.“

A university spokesman says Moore attended WSSU in the 2014-15 school year.  It's not clear if the victim knew Moore and police say no other suspects are being sought at this time.

Rountree says the shooting was an isolated incident.

Another student, who hasn't been identified was also injured in Sunday's shooting. Police say the investigation is still active and they're asking witnesses in the case to come forward.
