Winston-Salem's first public art park is now open. It's called Artivity on the Green and is located downtown on Liberty Street. The non-profit Art for Art's Sake developed the idea to stimulate growth and pedestrian traffic in the area, and to connect the Arts District and Innovation Quarter.

One of the attractions is an enormous red tower in the middle of the park. The sculpture looks like a smokestack. And unlike conventional water fountains, it emits periodic clouds of water vapor that are enhanced by colorful lighting. The public is embracing this tribute to the city's industrial heritage.

The park also features a 124-foot mural wall that showcases the work of local artists. It will change every year, and includes a section for youth.
