A new poll shows Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan is maintaining a narrow lead over Republican challenger Thom Tillis in their race for U.S. Senate. The poll shows that little has changed since voters were surveyed one month ago.

Elon Univeristy released it's latest survey of close to 700 likely voters Thursday.

The results show 45 percent supporting Hagan compared to 41 percent for Tillis, the state House speaker. Six percent said they would vote for someone else and almost another 7 percent were undecided. The margin of sampling error is less than 4 percentage points.

Hagan held almost exactly the same percentage margin over Tillis in last month's Elon poll.

Hagan's strongest support is among women and those likely voters under 30, and she maintains an edge among independent voters.

The survey also found 40 percent of likely voters in North Carolina approved of President Obama's performance while 52 percent disapproved. Governor Pat McCrory's approval rating was 37 percent, with 47 percent disapproving of his job performance.

The Elon University Poll is conducted using a random sample of households with telephones and cell telephone numbers, which are culled from several sources.
