A panel at UNC Greensboro has recommended that former supervisor Lyda Carpen not be rehired. This is the latest chapter in the controversial firing of Carpen and two staff photographers.
The panel cited what it called “unacceptable personal conduct”, including using a laptop at home for freelance jobs, and working side jobs for two university photographers whom Carpen supervised.
The News and Record of Greensboro reports the panel recommended that if Carpen is rehired, she should be demoted and stripped of management duties.
The panel was charged with presiding over Carpen's second appeal of her firing.
A decision is now in the hands of Chancellor Linda Brady, who made the original decision to fire all three employees and press criminal charges, which have since been dropped.
A lawyer for Carpen has argued that Chancellor Brady should not have the final say in this appeal.
If Carpen is not rehired, she can file a third appeal which would prompt a public hearing with the North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings in Raleigh.
