Sense Of Place Asheville: Steep Canyon Rangers

Steep Canyon Rangers' members are rightly revered in North Carolina bluegrass circles. Known in the wider world as comedian and banjo player Steve Martin's band, the group is also a formidable, Grammy-winning force on its own.

As part of World Cafe's Sense Of Place trip to Asheville, N.C., we visited with the Rangers — who hail from nearby Brevard — at Echo Mountain Studios. The band has been stretching its musical boundaries and doing some excellent writing, which you can hear in its 2015 album Radio.
