On Tuesday, federal agents arrested the city’s comptroller, and mayoral candidate, Brad Lander at an immigration courthouse in Lower Manhattan. Authorities say that Lander was trying to escort a migrant out of the building to prevent their detention.

And earlier in the week, the Department of Homeland Security reversed guidance it had issued last week limiting immigration raids. Specifically, it had told Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents not to conduct raids at farms, hotels and restaurants. And the President ordered ICE to “expand efforts to detain and deport” undocumented immigrants in Democratic-run cities. This comes as California’s Democratic leaders challenge him in the courts over his deployment of the state National Guard and U.S. Marines to ICE protests in Los Angeles.
