FBI: Body Found During Search For Kidnapped Teenage Girl

The FBI says a body has been found in an area of North Carolina where searchers have been looking for a missing teenager for three weeks.

A news release said FBI agents and detectives of the Lumberton Police Department found the body Tuesday afternoon near a road east of Interstate 95 and south of Lumberton.

Officials would not say immediately if the body found was that of 13-year-old Hania Aguilar. She was kidnapped Nov. 5 from a mobile home park after going outside to start a relative's SUV to prepare to leave for the school bus stop. Police say a man then forced the teenager into an SUV and drove off.

North Carolina Board Delays Finalizing Congressional Result

North Carolina's elections board has delayed finalizing the results of a close U.S. House race. The board appears to be scrutinizing potential wrongdoing in the 9th Congressional District.

Board members meeting Tuesday voted unanimously to certify the final tallies in scores of elections earlier this month but didn't sign off on the 9th District.

Republican Mark Harris leads Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes out of 283,000 cast in the district's eight counties.

North Carolina May Raise Tax Breaks As Apple Weighs Decision

North Carolina legislators are considering more than doubling state tax breaks offered to companies that promise to bring lots of high-paying jobs but aren't quite "transformative."

Legislation introduced Tuesday in the state General Assembly would raise the maximum tax break allowed for those companies by nearly 150 percent to $16,000 per job each year.

The change would apply to high-profile projects that aren't the so-called "transformative" companies eligible for massive state subsidies. That describes companies generating 3,000 jobs and investing at least $1 billion.

The tax breaks tweak comes six months after The Associated Press reported tech giant Apple was considering North Carolina for a new corporate campus employing 5,000 jobs and possibly many more.

Judge Rules For Elon University In Discrimination Lawsuit

A federal court judge has ruled in favor of Elon University in a lawsuit, which claimed the school passed over a Hispanic worker for a promotion.

A U.S. District Court in North Carolina ruled Monday that Teofilo Matias failed to prove he was significantly more qualified than the man who got the job he wanted. The judge also ruled Matias failed to prove discrimination was the motivation for a sexual harassment investigation against him.

Outgoing Ambassador Says She Brought 'Carolina Values' To UN

America's outgoing ambassador to the United Nations and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley says she brought 'Carolina values' to the U.N.

The 46-year-old Haley spoke in Charlotte Tuesday while accepting the Charlotte Chamber's 2018 Citizen of the Carolinas award. She credited her time as governor for preparing her for the U.N. She told the crowd of several hundred people that Carolinians take pride in standing for what's right, even if it means standing alone.

Haley announced last month that she plans to resign from the U.N. this year. It's unclear what she will do next.
