Demonstrations Against Gun Violence Continue This Weekend

Public rallies will be held across the country Saturday to express outrage over gun violence, and two Triad cities are hosting marches as part of the observance.

Greensboro's “March for Our Lives” will start at 2 p.m. at Government Square and end at LeBauer Park. It will include guest speakers and performers.

A similar march will be held in Winston-Salem beginning at 2 p.m. in downtown's Corpening Plaza. Police say the event will lead to temporary delays or closures of parts of Second, Cherry, Fourth and Liberty streets.

A panel discussion on gun legislation will be held Sunday at Wait Chapel on the campus of Wake Forest University.

Report: Triad Hospital Misdiagnoses Cancer Cases

A Triad hospital is under review after an investigation showed three patients received unnecessary cancer treatments and a fourth had a cancer diagnosis delayed.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is awaiting word on a federal Medicare review of its correction plan.

Wake Forest Baptist said last week that up to 10 patients were affected by pathology laboratory results and required a diagnosis change.

Hospital president Dr. Kevin High said in a statement that the hospital determined that "most, if not all, of the misdiagnoses centered on a single individual" who's no longer with the hospital.

Natural Birthing Center Closes Due To Deaths Of 3 Newborns

A natural birthing center in North Carolina has stopped delivering babies after the deaths of three newborns in the past six months.

The News & Observer reports Baby+Company in Cary has told its customers by email that it is sending all mothers in labor to WakeMed Cary, a local hospital which is its business partner. The company didn't provide specific information on when the deaths occurred, citing privacy laws.

The company also said the Cary site has had four deaths since it opened in October 2014. That compares to only one death at its other five centers in three states.

Baby+Co. has also opened facilities in Charlotte and Winston-Salem. It also operates centers in Tennessee and Colorado, opening the first one in 2013.

Duke Energy Utility CEO Got Big Boosts To Severance, Pay

Duke Energy Corp.'s board is striving to keep CEO Lynn Good on the job, promising a bigger severance package if she's forced out the door in addition to raising her pay by 55 percent.

A report released Thursday ahead of May's annual shareholders meeting shows company directors increased Good's potential severance package to more than $41 million last year, a nearly 50 percent increase over 2016. Shareholders will signal their views on executive pay by voting on a non-binding resolution.

Good's total compensation nearly doubled over the past two years to top $21 million last year. The Charlotte-based electric utility's proxy statement says that includes a one-time retention bonus of $7 million.

Celebration Of Life For Woody Durham Scheduled At UNC

The family of former North Carolina play-by-play announcer Woody Durham will join the school in a celebration of his life.

A statement from the school on Thursday says the service is scheduled for April 8 at 2 p.m. in Carmichael Arena.

The scheduled hour-long memorial service is open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served except for reserved seats for Carolina basketball and football lettermen.

Durham, who was the voice of the Tar Heels from 1971 to 2011, died on March 7 of complications of a neurocognitive disorder. He was 76.
