Darryl Hunt, Exonerated In Murder Case, Found Dead In Car

Police say Darryl Hunt, a man who was exonerated of the murder of a Winston-Salem newspaper editor, has been found dead inside a car.

A statement from police said officers received a call early Sunday regarding a person believed to be dead inside a car on University Parkway, near the Wake Forest University campus. Officers found a man identified as Hunt unresponsive inside the car.

In an interview with WFDD in 2014, Hunt says he was haunted by the trauma of being imprisoned for so many years. 

The Winston-Salem Journal reports more than 150 people came together Sunday night for a vigil to celebrate Hunt's life.

Man's Conviction Overturned Because Of Snoozing Lawyer

The U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia on Friday tossed out a North Carolina man's conspiracy and racketeering convictions because his lawyer slept through his trial.

The judges said attorney Nikita V. Mackey's sleepiness meant Nicholas Ragin was deprived of his constitutional right to a lawyer. The ruling sets a precedent for federal cases in the Carolinas, Virginia and West Virginia.

Authorities: Over 100 Cars Involved In Wreck On I-40

Authorities say scores of vehicles were involved in a series of wrecks that injured 20 people and shut down part of Interstate 40 in central North Carolina for hours.

North Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Jordan Pack tells The News & Observer more than 100 vehicles were involved in the crashes Sunday evening in Alamance County.

North Carolina No. 1 Seed In East And Opens Close To Home

 North Carolina has earned the No. 1 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament.

The Tar Heels (28-6) won the ACC Tournament and open against the Florida Gulf Coast-Fairleigh Dickinson winner in Raleigh.

The team won their last national championship in 2009.
