This year's High Point Fall Market is underway for fall just as the city is debating how to grow when it's not in town.

Larger-than-life posters of celebrity tastemakers greeted market visitors over the weekend, including images of Joanna Gaines, Kathy Ireland and Drew and Jonathan Scott, also known as the Property Brothers.

The market has an estimated regional economic impact of about $5 billion. Yet it's what happens when the market is not here that's on the minds of many in High Point.

City leaders are working to bring a $30 million entertainment and sports development to an area just north of the major showroom space.

Last month, Guilford County Commissioners declined to immediately support the plan, saying they needed more time to consider the financial implications.

High Point officials are now looking at alternatives to keep the project going.
