Redistricting has put several long-held General Assembly seats in play this year, including the 59th House District.

Republican incumbent Jon Hardister is seeking a fifth consecutive term.

He's being challenged by Nicole Quick, former chair of the Democratic Party in Guilford County making her first run for an office in the General Assembly.

The 59th district was redrawn in 2019 following a state court order. It now contains parts of Greensboro and eastern Guilford County.

The seat is viewed by Democrats as one of the key recently redrawn districts. They're hoping with a win to flip control of the House away from the Republicans for the first time since 2010.

As of July, Quick had outraised Hardister by more than $80,000, reaffirming a serious effort by Democrats to unseat the House Majority Whip.
