Greensboro released its third annual GSO2040 implementation review this week with signs of progress for the city's goals in areas such as housing and transportation.

GSO2040 is Greensboro's long-term comprehensive plan that was first adopted in 2020. It focuses on issues like increasing economic competitiveness, prioritizing sustainability and making the city car-optional.

According to the update, there are over 100 miles of bike facilities including cycling lanes and greenways. The city also recently launched its first crosstown bus route to expand services.

Another goal for Greensboro has been to increase housing. According to the city's planning department, around 16,000 units were approved between 2021 and 2023.

As part of the implementation effort, the city is also working on smaller and more focused area plans including a U.S. 421 study to assess needs for future development.
