Greensboro City Council approved a rezoning request by Renaissance Church paving the way for a new space of worship and office building on West Gate City Boulevard.

Council voted 7-2 for the proposal on Tuesday, with councilmembers Zack Matheny and Marikay Abuzuaiter voting against it.

Several residents came out in opposition to the proposal citing concerns for increased traffic.

Council member Tammi Thurm says the applicant has made several concessions with neighbors. This includes the erection of buffers and limitations on office hours.

"It feels like every time you got another condition, there was another request," Thurm says. "And quite frankly, that's concerning to me."

The proposal was denied initially by the City Council in June. Thurm says this plan is far better than what was originally shown.

She says the neighborhood and church have worked hard on this compromise.
