Greensboro’s city council has approved an $831 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year — without raising property taxes.

The budget, which is about 3.5% larger than last year’s, keeps the tax rate flat at roughly 67 cents per $100 of property valuation.

Part of the funding will support infrastructure improvements, as the city braces for growth tied to aviation manufacturer JetZero. The company plans to build a facility at Piedmont Triad International Airport that’s expected to bring more than 14,000 jobs to the region.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, Council Member Hugh Holston emphasized the need to prepare for a shift.

“We have a real responsibility on this council to make sure that we're ready for that — our staff is ready, whether it’s permitting, whatever it is,” Holston said. “We have to make sure that we are primed and ready to go every single day.”

The budget includes investments in water and sewer line upgrades, stormwater management, street resurfacing, and bridge repairs.

It goes into effect on July 1.
