A global call and customer service company is expanding in High Point, bringing hundreds of new jobs to the Triad. Officials with Alorica say they will add 600 full-time positions at their center on Federal Drive.

Gov. Roy Cooper made the announcement during a Tuesday press conference in the city's municipal building, along with other officials from Greensboro and High Point.

“Alorica's impressive commitment to North Carolina and to the Greensboro High Point area underscores what a great place this is to do business,” says Cooper. “Our quality workforce, our welcoming business climate helps companies succeed. It's encouraging to see Alorica eager to keep growing here.”

Alorica wouldn't say what the jobs would pay, but added that the company offers competitive wages and the positions would include benefits. The announcement comes after Alorica said it was adding 800 jobs here in November.

State and local performance-based incentives were not part of the expansion projects.

“We are very excited. In the past, the local facility had lots of seasonal and part-time workers and Alorica, which became the new owner last June, is switching its model to hire more full-time jobs. These are good jobs with good benefits,” says Loren Hill, president of the High Point Economic Development Corporation. “It's part of our strategy to provide a mix of opportunities and employ as many people as possible. We aren't recruiting these jobs over manufacturing jobs.”

The company is asking people interested in the positions to tour their facility in the Piedmont Centre Industrial Park and apply in person.

“There's good folks everywhere, but it's my experience that the people in Greensboro/High Point are the most hospitable kind of people that I've ever met. And it's very noticeable when you go to our site and feel the energy on the floor and meet with them one-on-one and in small group settings,” says Ken Muche, a company spokesman. “But we aren't the only one who noticed.  Our clients have noticed and have seen the results and they want to give us more business.”

The company also announced on Tuesday that it is partnering with the Military Veterans Project. The nonprofit works to prevent suicides and help veterans in need. Alorica says employees at the High Point facility will assist with fundraising efforts for the organization.

California-based Alorica employs more than 100,000 people worldwide. Nearly half of that workforce is in the United States at its more than 100 call centers.
