Forsyth County groups to host LGBTQ+ mental health event Wednesday

Three organizations are partnering to sponsor a community conversation this week on mental health tailored to LGBTQ+ residents.
LGBTQ young people are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers. The event Wednesday is designed to offer support and resources to address the needs of the community during this Mental Health Awareness Month.
One of those resources is Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) training, a suicide prevention technique that creators liken to CPR. It can be taught in as little as one hour.
The event will also feature peer support and counseling. Information on gun locks and Narcan will be provided too.
The conversation is sponsored by the Forsyth County Government, Partners Health Management, and the Mental Health Association of Forsyth County.
It’s slated for this Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Huber Theatre on the campus of Salem College. Participants are asked to register online.
