Several Winston-Salem city leaders and advocates are asking for the release of police videos after a man died in custody last week. The release of the tapes may help the public understand what happened to 31-year-old Travis Page.

Dan Besse added his voice Saturday to a growing list of city council members and community leaders asking for the release of recordings connected to Page's death.

Besse posted a note on his Facebook page calling for transparency in the case, adding that he has no reason to believe that the officers involved did not act professionally and with due care.

Page died after he was detained by police Wednesday night. That came after a report that someone had fired a gun in an area near Smith Reynolds Airport. Police said Page matched the suspect's description.

Page became unresponsive after officers put him in handcuffs. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said they found a gun on Page before he was taken to the hospital. Four officers involved were placed on administrative leave. The State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident.
