A Democratic state senator is considering a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2016.  Sen. Joel Ford of Charlotte says Washington isn't working and considers incumbent Republican Richard Burr part of the problem.

Ford confirmed Tuesday his interest in the Democratic nomination.  He plans to visit Democrats in Washington who recruit Senate candidates later this week.

Ford joined the state Senate in 2013 and is a former Mecklenburg County Democratic Party chairman. He says Democrats need to develop a platform that brings back unaffiliated voters and some Democrats who have been voting Republican recently.

Ford says he has no timeline for a decision.

Current state Rep. Duane Hall, former House member Deborah Ross and Spring Lake Mayor Chris Rey also are considering Democratic Senate bids.
