Governor McCrory Wants Confederate Flag Off License Plates

NC House Democrats Lodge Chamber Complaint On Marriage Law

More than 40 House Democrats have signed a formal protest complaining how Republicans got legislation passed that exempts some court officials from performing gay marriage duties on religious objections.

The documents sent Tuesday to Speaker Tim Moore blasted on constitutional and procedural grounds the bill's passage and override of Gov. Pat McCrory's veto of the measure this month.

House-Senate Negotiations Next Step To Passing NC Budget

The North Carolina House has formally rejected the Senate budget proposal that it approved last week.

The unanimous decision by House legislators Tuesday was expected. Their two-year spending proposal developed last month is very different from the Senate plan, which would spend nearly $700 million less next year than what the House wants.

NCDMV Issues 1,000 No-fee Voter ID Cards Ahead Of 2016

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is giving out no-fee voter ID cards and will register qualified voters at all driver license offices statewide in advance of the 2016 elections.

No-fee ID cards are available at all driver license locations for residents who have no other valid form of identification as described in House Bill 589. Applicants will need to present documents that verify their age and identity, their residency address in North Carolina and provide a valid Social Security number.

NC Lawmakers Approve Insurance Mandate On Moped Owners

Moped owners could have a new item on their to-do lists in 2016 after getting their small-engine bikes registered with the state starting next month.

The General Assembly gave its final approval Tuesday to legislation requiring mopeds have liability insurance starting in July 2016. The House approved the mandate in April. It now goes to Gov. Pat McCrory for final review.

Sheriff's Office Says Break-in Suspect Left Wallet Behind

Sheriff's deputies in Lincoln County had little trouble identifying a break-in suspect.

The Charlotte Observer reports the suspect left his wallet and personal identification behind.

Authorities charged 25-year-old Joshua Ray Murphy of High Shoals with two felony counts of breaking and entering a building and one felony count each of larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods. He is jailed on $30,000 bail, and it's not known if he has an attorney.
