Republicans Face 2014 Differences On NC Medicaid Overhaul

It looks like North Carolina House and Senate Republicans are nearing the same impasse they reached in 2014 over the best way to overhaul how the state Medicaid program pays to treat patients.

House leaders began running through committees last week their preferred Medicaid proposal - one very similar to what they voted for last year. And Senate budget-writers prepared this week to unveil a budget bill expected to contain Medicaid reforms like those the chamber's Republicans strongly backed a year ago.

2 Teens Victims Of Shark Attacks Off NC Coast

Two young people are recovering from separate shark attacks at a North Carolina beach after surgery.

The first attack involving a 12-year-old girl occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday in Oak Island, about 25 miles southwest of Wilmington.

The second involving a 16-year-old boy was reported less than two hours later about two miles down the beach.

PETA Sues To Challenge New Law That Allows Opossum Tradition

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is challenging a new law designed to preserve a western North Carolina New Year's Eve tradition involving a live, wild opossum. Gov. Pat McCrory signed a bill into law on Thursday that exempts opossums everywhere in North Carolina from state wildlife laws during a five-day period around Jan. 1.

Visitors Flock To Carowinds For Wooden Coaster Set To Close

The theme park that straddles the state line announced in May that the ride will shut down in late July, according to WRAL-TV . The move will allow for construction of newer attractions. The coaster opened 40 years ago.
