North Carolina may postpone any decisions on expanding the use of body cameras worn by state and local police officers. The legislature wants some more time to examine the issue.

The House voted unanimously Monday to authorize a study on the use of body-worn cameras. The study would be conducted by state criminal justice standards and training commissions. The findings would then be reported to lawmakers at next year's legislative session starting in the spring. The study idea now goes to the Senate.

Body cameras have received more attention after recent police shootings in other parts of the country.

A bill that passed the House last week addressed how recordings from police body cameras and dashboard cameras should be confidential in police investigations, although a court order could make them public.

Greensboro police started wearing body cameras in 2013.
