This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks. The city of Greensboro will host an event to honor the victims and survivors.
Many people can remember where they were on 9/11 and the uncertainty and emotions that followed. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives that day.
On Saturday morning, participants in Greensboro will head to the Bellameade Parking Deck to climb a total of nearly 73 flights of stairs. It's a tribute to the firefighters and other safety personnel who died at the World Trade Center.
Brett Combs, Assistant Chief in the Greensboro Fire Department, is one of the event organizers. He says he remembers the day clearly.
“If you're not careful, I think you will forget," says Combs. "And as bad as that day was, I'm sure a lot of people want to forget that day. But for us as firefighters and as Americans I think it's something we need to remember, reflect on, honor those people that sacrificed the most.”
Registration for the stair climb begins at 7:30 a.m. at Center City Park. Participants can pin pictures of the fallen first responders to wear as they climb.

A commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at Ronald W. Reagan High School in conjunction with the City of Winston-Salem's 9/11 Public Safety Challenge for local Junior ROTC Units.
The commemoration will be held in the school gymnasium. State and local elected officials will speak, along with a representative of U.S. Sen. Richard Burr.
