Former Greensboro Mayor Carolyn Allen has died at the age of 93. Allen was elected as the city’s first female mayor. She served three terms from 1993 to 1999.

In a statement Wednesday, current Mayor Marikay Abuzuaiter said Allen was a champion for the city and that her “tireless work on community policing was respected across Greensboro.”

A memorial service will be held next Tuesday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on West Market Street.
