The fate of a Greensboro school that suffered damage from a tornado last year is now getting clearer.

Guilford County Schools Superintendent Sharon Contreras will propose that Hampton Elementary School close next year.

Since a tornado hit Hampton's old building, the school has been located at Reedy Fork Elementary School. It has been operating alongside Reedy Fork since last April.

According to the News and Record, Contreras says enrollment for Hampton Elementary at Reedy Fork is down, making it difficult to justify keeping the school open. She also said that Hampton's principal LaToy Kennedy will be the new principal of Wiley Elementary.

Hampton Elementary School was one of three area schools that were damaged by the tornado last April. The other two, Peeler and Erwin, also doubled up with other district schools this year. Parents of Hampton students have been notified of the possibility of the closure.
