Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education voted to approve an academic calendar with an earlier start and end date, which will be out of compliance with state law. Several other North Carolina districts are making the same move. 

Students at Moore Elementary School in Winston-Salem are learning about ecosystems, plants, and food through gardening on campus. Volunteers will spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service working on more outdoor projects for the school. 

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is requesting an additional $27 million from the school capital project’s budget in order to fund the construction of a new Brunson Elementary. County commissioners will vote on the matter on Thursday. 

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools is looking for feedback regarding three potential academic calendar options for next school year. One of them deviates from state requirements in order to start school roughly two weeks earlier. 

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education approved spending an additional $1.3 million on the controversial R. J. Reynolds High School stadium project on Tuesday. The growing budget raised concerns for some members of the board and the community.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools was one of two North Carolina districts to receive a federal grant intended to foster more diverse schools. The funds will support the creation of new attendance zone models and maps. 

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education approved a new pay plan for classified staff at their meeting on Tuesday. Most of these employees will receive a 6% raise as a result.
