May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the state health department has a new dashboard highlighting its Peer Warmline.

The Warmline is a free resource for anyone facing emotional distress, substance use challenges, or other mental health struggles. Calls are answered by Peer Support Specialists who have experience with these issues and can understand what callers are going through.

It has been just over a year since the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services launched the Warmline. In that time, over 67,000 calls have been fielded, with 99% of those surveyed saying they were satisfied with the help they received.

For people seeking in-person assistance for mental health issues or substance abuse treatment, the state offers community crisis centers. There are locations in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Burlington, Wilkesboro and more. Mobile crisis teams are also available.

The Peer Warmline is available 24/7 by calling 855-PEERS-NC.
