An international manufacturing firm has chosen High Point for a new plant that is expected to employ about 200 people.

Amada North America has confirmed that it will build an $82-million facility at the Premier Center Business Park in High Point.

The decision was announced Monday by the North Carolina Commerce Department.

The Japanese-owned company is based in Buena Park, California. Amada makes machinery for sheet metal manufacturers.

More than $2 million in performance-based incentives have been approved by the High Point City Council and Guilford County Board of Commissioners.

It's expected that the jobs would be created between 2020 and 2024, with an average wage of $37,000.
