Production will soon end at the ITG cigarette manufacturing plant in Reidsville, and 110 jobs will be eliminated.

The plant closure is not unexpected. ITG Brands announced last year it would close the Reidsville facility by April 2020 as it moved production to the former Lorillard plant in Greensboro.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports a WARN notice to the N.C. Commerce Department says ITG would begin shutting down operations on December 19th, with most jobs being eliminated by the end of the year. The final round of layoffs will conclude by the end of February 2020.

ITG spokesman Mark Smith has said it's doubtful that Reidsville production workers would be offered jobs in Greensboro.

But Smith says the company is committed to a healthy future, investing $70 million in new high-tech, high-speed equipment at the Greensboro facility.
