The Housing Authority of Winston-Salem's Executive Director Kevin Cheshire is stepping down after serving five years in the role.
According to an announcement, Cheshire will step down from his leadership role and as general counsel on June 30. He will continue to work with the agency as a part-time advisor during the transition.
The change comes as the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem plans a rebrand. The organization will be renamed ASPIRE, which stands for accountability, service, perseverance, integrity, respect and enthusiasm.
Cheshire says the rebranding is part of an effort to step away from titles like public housing that carry a "negative stigma."
HAWS has also faced scrutiny in recent months from residents speaking out about their living conditions.
The unveiling of the organization's new logo and home office will take place on North Cleveland Avenue at 10 a.m. on June 10.
