Violent crime is on the decline so far this year in Forsyth and Guilford counties.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says violent crime has decreased by 19% and property crime by 9% since January 2024. As of late May, the Winston-Salem Police Department reports there have been four homicides in 2025, compared to 29 last year.
Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said at a recent press conference that the improvements are a community effort.
"We got here from a lot of things that we have done collectively together," he said. "And so as we go forward into the summer, our plan is to continuously work with the Winston-Salem Police Department, Kernersville Police Department and keeping this entire county safe."
Meanwhile, Guilford County is showing a similar trend. There were 263 violent crimes in 2024 compared to 74 as of late May this year. The Greensboro Police Department reports the city saw 13 homicides as of late May, compared to 18 homicides the same time last year.
