Forsyth County Sheriff's Office announces arrests of jail workers in connection to identity theft of inmates

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office announced at a press conference Wednesday the arrest of two of its detention center workers and an employee with its food contractor, as well as additional charges for an inmate at the jail.

Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said the arrests and charges come following a four-month investigation. Charges include trafficking in stolen identity and felony conspiracy.

Kimbrough said it marks a bad day when the public's trust is violated, but that the systems in place to catch this kind of thing are working.

"It's a good day that they're next door being processed and arrested because they truly have stained what we have accomplished thus far but it will not stop us from serving and giving you our best," he said.

Kimbrough said as of Wednesday the identity theft being investigated impacted 18 inmates at the county jail, and he apologized to those individuals. He said it was disappointing to see his own workers involved.

"To betray not just me, but to betray the men and women that serve and protect with them every day is frustrating to me," he said. "It's aggravating, very aggravating."

Kimbrough said the investigation is ongoing.
