Six Broadway shows will make their Triad premier when the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts opens in Greensboro next year.

The shows include the smash hit Wicked, Tony-winner Dear Evan Hansen, and family favorite, The Lion King.

Mean Girls, Come From Away, and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical round out the list.

Construction at the site of the new Tanger Center for the Performing Arts stopped briefly as community leaders and partners gathered for the announcement.

Managing Director for the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, Matt Brown, says it will encourage further development in the city.

“In the heart of our downtown, the Tanger Center will quickly become the pulse of the Piedmont,” he says.

Officials announced that the Tanger Center has received $43 million in private donations. The center is scheduled to be completed in March of 2020. It will seat approximately 3,000 and will host more than 150 events each year.
