Wildlife research in North Carolina is benefiting from an increase in sales of guns and ammo in the past few years.

The state received 20 million dollars this year from an 80 year-old federal tax on these sales. The funds this year are three times higher than the state received in 2007. Wildlife officials say the extra money has made up for cuts in state funding and allowed them to start new projects.Along with wildlife research, game animal projects and hunter education programs also benefit from these dollars.

The increased revenue has led to parking lots, roads, new signs and boundary markers on the 2 million acres of game lands managed by the Wildlife Resources Commission.
