Burlington City Manager Craig Honeycutt has announced he will retire on Dec. 31, 2025.

Burlington City Manager Craig Honeycutt is retiring at the end of the year.

Honeycutt has been in the role since 2022, and before that was briefly assistant city manager.

"Burlington has been a joy to work for – from a city council that collaborates and fully supports its staff, to forward-thinking planning, highly professional public safety services, outstanding recreational facilities, and leadership in water and sewer services for the county and region," he said. "I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve this city and lead such a dedicated organization."

Honeycutt has over 32 years of public service experience. He has served in leadership roles in local governments across North Carolina, including Wayne and Alamance counties.

Mayor Jim Butler said Honeycutt has been invaluable to Burlington.

"He came in with a strong understanding of our community, which allowed him to hit the ground running and help move important projects forward," Butler said. "We are truly grateful for the time and dedication he has given to serving Burlington."

Butler and the Burlington City Council are currently working with staff to develop a succession plan.
