ASPIRE has named Ted Ortiviz as the new executive director to oversee Winston-Salem's public housing.
Ortiviz fills the role left open after Kevin Cheshire stepped down from the position at the end of June. The change comes weeks after the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem officially rebranded as ASPIRE.
Ortiviz previously served as the organization's executive vice president of operations.
ASPIRE's board of commissioners unanimously approved hiring him at its meeting Tuesday. Outgoing Board Chair Andrew Perkins said Ortiviz has shown integrity in his time with the organization.
"He's proven that he can get the job done as well as not only listen to the problems, but be able to provide those solutions in a very, very effective way," Perkins said.
According to a news release, Ortiviz grew up in public housing in Pueblo, Colorado. He served as the executive director of the Pueblo Housing Authority from 2013 to 2019.
Ortiviz steps into his new role as ASPIRE looks to tackle several challenges. This includes ongoing maintenance issues with the organization's aging high-rise buildings, and completing the Choice Neighborhood Initiative project.
