As the start of the school year approaches, local organizations throughout the Triad and High Country are collecting supplies to donate to families in need.

GuilfordWorks is holding a back-to-school supply drive this week through August 15. It’s accepting new, unopened materials like notebooks, binders, and backpacks at locations in Greensboro and High Point.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is doing the same, with its annual “Operation School Supplies” event. Donations can be dropped off at any of their office locations until August 11.

In Winston-Salem, United Way of Forsyth County’s African American Leadership Society has also been collecting donations. The organization will give out supplies to students this Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Up in the High Country, there are a couple of events scheduled for the following weekend. The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office supply drive will be held on Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the sheriff's office parking lot.

Watauga County’s Back 2 School Festival will also be held on Aug. 9 at Watauga High School.
