Greensboro police officer killed in the line of duty

A Greensboro police officer was shot inside a grocery store on Monday morning and succumbed to his injuries. 

Officer Michael Horan was killed in the line of duty at a Food Lion on Lawndale Drive around 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23. Haran was responding to a call about a man with a firearm inside the grocery store.

According to a press release from the city, Tarell Isaac McMillian, 34, of Greensboro, has been charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at the Guilford County Jail. McMillian was apprehended with the help of the NC Highway Patrol in Duplin County. Police are not seeking any other suspects. 

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will be the chief investigator in this case at the request of the Greensboro Police Department.
